The Real Nutfield, New Hampshire
I’ve lived in Oklahoma for 22 years. This rolling land with its stubby trees and breathtaking sunsets has become comfortable for me. It’s where all three of my children were born and raised. It’s where both my parents grew up and now live again. It’s a wonderful place to raise children.
But home will always be New Hampshire.
My family moved to Londonderry, a small town about forty miles north of Boston, when I was three years old. I went through twelve years of school there, met my husband there. And though I haven’t lived there in almost a quarter of a century, when someone says the word “home,” I think of Londonderry.
My Hidden Truth series takes place in a fictional town called Nutfield, New Hampshire.
Want to hear a secret? Nutfield was the original name for my hometown, way back in the early 1700s. In fact, the town was incorporated as “Londonderry” by a small group of Irish immigrants
who relocated there in 1722 when they heard about a 12-square-mile area “abound with nut trees.” (
I borrowed the name, though I put my Nutfield nearer the coast and in a more remote and less populated area, because I needed more of a small-town feel than current-day Londonderry offers.
It’s a good thing the fictional Nutfield is far from the beaten path. They have enough trouble there as it is and certainly don’t need an interstate running through to add more.
For instance, a woman on the run inadvertently leads an international arms dealer to town in Convenient Lies. (If you’d like to sample my writing for free, click this link to download a free copy of Convenient Lies.)
In Twisted Lies, my hero and heroine must solve an eight-year-old mystery in order to rescue her kidnapped four-year-old daughter. Their safe house in Nutfield turns out to be anything but.
The hero in Generous Lies wants only to rescue his son from serious drug addiction, but when bad guys come to town seeking a package he didn’t know he had, all you-know-what breaks loose, drawing him, his son, and his new love into serious danger.
But Nutfield is in the most danger in my new release when a man who runs a human trafficking enterprise parks himself in town looking for a woman who’s been running from him for a decade. The characters in Innocent Lies—the faithful hero, the determined heroine, and the adorable little eight-year-old boy—have everything to lose if they can’t bring down this enemy.
The Londonderry of my youth had its issues, don’t get me wrong. But unless I was just a clueless kid (which I was—who am I kidding?) the danger wasn’t quite that drastic.

I hope you’ll visit my fictional town of Nutfield, New Hampshire, in the pages of my books. And maybe you’ll get to see the very real—and not nearly as dangerous—Londonderry someday. It’s everything you could ask for from a New England town. I know you’d love it.
This is the church I was married in, the Londonderry Presbyterian Church, which stands across the street from the town common.

Robin Patchen writes contemporary Christian suspense, romance, and romantic suspense. Her books are often set in New England, where she grew up. She creates strong, protective heroes and intelligent, courageous heroines.

Aside from her family and her Savior, Robin Patchen has two loves—writing and traveling. If she could combine them, she’d spend a lot of time sitting in front of her laptop at sidewalk cafes and ski lodges and beachside burger joints. She’d visit every place in the entire world—twice, if possible—and craft stories and tell people about her Savior. Alas, time is too short and money is too scarce for Robin to traipse all over the globe, even if her husband and kids wanted to go with her. So she stays in Oklahoma, shares the Good News when she can, and writes to illustrate the unending grace of God through the power and magic of story.
