About Dead & Buried:

You ever hear the phrase, about as successful as a soup sandwich? Well, that's me, I’m the soup sandwich, but instead of a soggy mess, you have a twenty five year old with a Bachelor’s degree in nothing useful who just quit her job at the local home improvement store where there were definitely no tortured billionaires looking to tie anyone up--and that's not a bad thing. I know, it's looking pretty sad right about now, but at least I don't still live with my parents…   So, here I am, embarking on a new journey covering the Funerals and Obituaries section of the local paper, the San Diego Metro News, for the editor--brace yourself--my uncle, Sal. Unfortunately, while my parents are on vacation, my Granny and her friends are determined to stir up some trouble--but this time, they may have bitten off more than they can chew--especially when some of the residents of the local retirement community are turning up unnaturally dead.   There is nothing that will keep me from protecting the people that I love, no matter how crazy they may be--not even the sexy, I mean stubborn, homicide detective, Trent Foyle, can stop me.   My name is Shelby Whitmore and I'm kind of the newest reporter for the San Diego Metro News, but hey, I'm a hit with the blue hairs.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Ahhhh!” I squeal. “I love you, Joe! You’re the best.” I hug him tight. He just saved me. Trent just growls. Kane just laughs.
“Aww, it was nothing, ma’am,” Joe preens. “I’m just glad I could help.” Merrily just smiles fondly. I’m thinking they have an interesting relationship.
“We do,” she answers with a laugh.
“I said that out loud, didn’t I?” I ask, blushing as red as my hair.
“Yep.” Joe laughs. “That’s the concussion talking. You should explain Mer and me to her, though,” he says to Trent.
“That’s not my story to tell, man,” Trent says softly.
Joe and Merrily are guiding me onto the gurney. My legs are out in front of me, and I’m sitting up. The back of the gurney is popped up, supporting me. My good hand is cradling my bad one, and Joe and Merrily are buckling the safety straps around me.
“You know how I love a good strap,” Joe says softly.
Merrily blushes beet red and then laughs. Kane and Trent groan audibly, and that seems to just make Joe laugh harder. I must have a confused look on my face, but then Merrily blows my mind.
“Joe is my Dom,” she says softly with a smile as she pats my leg. “On three. One . . . Two . . . Three.” And they both hit the latches to launch my gurney up off the ground.
“Wait, what?” I say as they all escort me down the hall and through the store. Kane, Trent, Joe, and Merrily all just laugh. Must be the concussion. Yeah, that’s it.
Once we reach the front, Hilde is crying. I know she feels bad. She’s seen me at my worst with James. I know she’s blaming herself, but she has no reason to. She didn’t beat me. And I never told her to call the cops.
“It’s okay,” I tell her. “I’m going to be okay. This isn’t your fault, Hilde. Tell me you know,” I demand, but she just looks away and nods.
“Let’s rock and roll,” Joe says as the sliding doors open and they wheel me out.
Kane fist-bumps Joe and Trent before he jumps into his car to head to the station. Joe and Merrily load me up into the back of the ambulance. Merrily sits in the back with me, while Joe hops into the driver’s seat. Trent climbs up and sits on the bench next to me.
“This is Unit Seventeen, ready to transport patient. Please notify San Diego General of our arrival.” The doors shut. Joe hits the lights and sirens.
“So, what do you mean when you say, ‘Dom’?” I question, and the ambulance fills with chuckles.
“He’s my Dominant, and I am Joe’s submissive,” Merrily says patiently.
“I’m not sure I understand . . .”
“I’ll show you sometime if you’d like,” Trent says silkily.
My breath catches in my chest. I’m not so sure about that. Merrily just winks at me. Yep, this is definitely the concussion’s handiwork. None of this conversation is really happening. Merrily and Joe bust out laughing. Trent, smiling broadly, just looks down at his hands in his lap, but I can see his lips twitching with laughter. Damn it, I must have said that shit out loud again.
“Yep, you did. Still are, really,” Merrily confirms.
“Goddamn it!” I grumble. “Stupid fucking concussion. Damn stupid sexy detective!” With that, Trent throws his head back and laughs, too.

About the Author:

Jennifer is a thirty something lover of words, all words: the written, the spoken, the sung (even poorly), the sweet, the funny, and even the four letter variety. She is a native of San Diego, California where she grew up reading the Brownings and Rebecca with her mother and Clifford and the Dog who Glowed in the Dark with her dad, much to her mother’s dismay.   Jennifer is a graduate of California State University San Marcos where she studied Criminology and Justice Studies. She is also an Alpha Xi Delta.   10 years ago, she was swept off her feet by her very own sailor. Today, they are happily married and the parents of a 8 year old and 6 year old twins. She can often be found in East Texas on the soccer fields, drawing with her children, or reading. Jennifer is convinced that if she puts her fitbit on one of the dogs, she might finally make her step goals. She loves a great romance, an alpha hero, and lots and lots of laughter.
