Blog Tour: Uncovering Cobbogoth by Hannah L. Clark

Norah Lukens needs to uncover the truth about the fabled lost city of Cobbogoth. After her archaeologist uncle’s murder, Norah is asked to translate his old research journal for evidence and discovers that his murder was a cover-up for something far more sinister.

When she turns to neighbor and only friend James Riley for help, she realizes that not only is their bitter-sweet past haunting her every step, but James is keeping dangerous secrets. Can Norah discover what they are before its too late to share her own.

Hannah L. Clark lives with her husband and son in the glorious Rocky Mountains. She has always known she would be a storyteller. After graduating from Utah Valley University with a bachelor’s degree in English, she immediately began writing Uncovering Cobbogoth.

Despite her dream to one day become an author, Hannah has spent her life struggling with dyslexia. Because of this, she became a writing tutor in college and is a huge advocate for those struggling with learning disabilities and encouraging them never to give up on their dreams. One of her favorite parts about being an author is speaking to schools and book groups about dyslexia and how she has come to see it as a gift.

Hannah loves her fellas, Michael and Sam, hanging with her sister/Illustrator Bekah, running, mythology, soulful bluegrass music, studying alternative medicine, retro hairdos, and growing things. Like her heroine Norah, she kind of believes trees have souls.
NOTE | Contrary to the impression this bio gives, Hannah was surprisingly not raised by hippies. ;-)

My Review

I was excited to review this book based on the synopsis alone, which seemed different from anything I have read in YA for a while. I love YA books, but a lot out there try to create their own world, but end up being sloppy imitations of better selling YA novels. This book does not do that!
Uncovering Cobbogoth was a great read that created its own unique world with strong characters and an intriguing plot. I was hooked as soon as I started reading and could not put it down until I finished it. Hannah L. Clark creates a unique new world that readers will enjoy getting lost in. The female lead character, Norah,  is smart and engaging. However, unlike other books where the female characters are flawless, Nor, is more realistic in that she needs to take a few seconds to breath when crazy sh*t happens! Seriously I love strong female characters in YA literature, but it is not realistic when they can face every crazy plot twist without blinking an eye.
Now back to Uncovering Cobbogoth, besides the female lead character who I loved, the world fashioned was amazing. The mythology created in this book lead to a mysterious and imaginative fairy tale. It was refreshing to read a good YA novel that didn't have any of the typical mythological creatures that I love like; vampires, were-wolfs, and fairies, and was still able keep me captivated. The mystery in this book will keep you reading and leave you wanting more from this new world created by Hannah L. Clark. Honestly all book readers, not just YA fanatics, should put this book on their must read list and hope for more from Hannah L. Clark.
