Progress Report 1

I need a new game plan. Let just say my original game plan has gotten me nowhere. Originally I decided to write up a quick synopsis, character descriptions, and a plot in outline format. This way I thought I would have good source material to work of off so I know what to write. However, now I have writers block and the story that was in my head can no longer escape to paper. So what was I to do....
The new game plan came to me at the end of the paperback version of Divergent by Veronica Roth. I borrowed the book from my cousin to read before the movie came out. Of course I loved it and could not put it down, even trying to sneak pages in at work. This particular version of Divergent came with extras in the back of the book like; author interview, faction quiz, an excerpt of Insurgent(book 2), and writing tips from Veronica Roth. Since I am trying to write a book myself, I immediately turned to the section with the..........faction quiz! Turns out I am Erudite, which was unexpected I was hoping for Amity or Divergent! After I faced reality about my, obvious to everyone but me, wishes to gain as much knowledge as possible I turned to the writing tips portion. It was five easy steps that I took a liking to. I believe Veronica's writing tips will really work for me. Here is a brief overview of them:

  1. Word Vomit. Just write. Do not reread what you've just written....
  2. Let it sit for a while. This is a good time for you to reconnect with friends and family....
  3. Reread, and make notes....
  4. Rip draft to shreds....Save old draft, copy-paste the text into a new document, and start deleting huge sections of text....
  5. Start writing again!
If you want the full version of Veronica Roth's Writing Tips buy her books that have them in there. Or you can visit her website here!

I really like the word vomit part. Stage Four will be tough, but she makes some very good points about why that is important. So this will be my new game plan word vomit and do not look back. Of course  will save what I did from my first attempt because it could be useful especially in stage three.

Also I will blog more often to keep me going. I mean when I decided to update my blog today I all the sudden wrote a lot of my book. Of course stage four might take more than half away but it would be essential for a great read!
